How to Use Public Relations Workshop – November 2011

Learning to make the most of your time and small budget to market your business can be challenging. This workshop will show you how the elements of the marketing mix can help you grow your business with target communications through public relations, sales promotions, advertising, social media and more.

This interactive three-hour workshop teaches small business owners, and aspiring entrepreneurs how to find and create your news story to generate positive public relations and communicate to prospective target audiences; how to think integrated marketing to generate ongoing public relations for your business; including:

• What is a brand and why you need one
• The buying pattern of customers
• How to differentiate from competitors
• A brief history of media
• What is public relations, how it works and how to DIY
• How to uncover your newsworthy story
• Pitching media
• Free and inexpensive tools for DIY PR
• How sales promotions can drive PR and new customers
• Media tie ins and promotions
• Thinking outside the box – guerilla marketing
• How small businesses can affordably and creatively set up an integrated marketing campaign

Workshop participants will be asked to bring in their brand identity and notes on marketing to share and be evaluated by consumer peers. These will be used as real-life examples in the workshop allowing each participant to walk out armed with a road map to appropriately and affordably market their business, including small business-specific resources.
